Series of diving watches. Both models look better when worn with a business suit. Both feature similarly styled arrow-shaped hour hands and almost identical unidirectional rotating bezels. Even the general layout of the dial is almost the same (well, this one is simple: 3/4 of all dressy diving watches present on the market use the legendary Rolex Sea-Dweller and Submariner as an infinite source of inspiration.)

The only serious difference among the two chronometers is that this new Breitling bases its Caliber 23 movement on the time-proven chronograph movement. Both movements seem to be equally reliable and offer comparable levels of accuracy.

However, with all these visual similarities, the new Breitling SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 125th Anniversary model somehow looks better than the Omega’s job. Perhaps, the reason is that, with its sword-shaped minute hand, the watch sports more balanced appearance and provides better legibility.

Also, there is something menacing about those hands. While Omega’s designers clearly overdid it trying to make them more ‘exquisite’, SuperOcean’s hour hand looks like a point of an arrow, and the minute hand looks like a blade of a heavy sword.

Oh, where was I?

This particular Breitling SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph Limited Edition 125th Anniversary diving watch will soon be selling in three new colors of its dial (Volcano black; Silver; Stratus Blue Gun) and two variations of strap: you can get it with either stainless steel bracelet featuring mesh pattern or, preferably, with a black rubber strap.

Each color variation is planned to be produced in 1000 pieces and, according to some rumors, will be officially priced at whooping $6000 USD. Well, you can always get one in an on-line shop with a nice discount, although Breitling clearly frowns upon this practice.

To celebrate its 125th anniversary, Breitling has created a limited edition model of its legendary Navitimer Chronograph. The timepiece has inherited the slide rule bezel to be used for performing a wide range of calculations. The new Navitimer is to be unveiled at Baselworld 2009.

The Breitling Navitimer 125th Anniversary watch features the distinctive elements of the classic pilot's models of the brand, including a two-counter chronograph and a highly masculine "Air Racer" bracelet.

The case of the new Breitling watch is crafted from stainless steel or 18K red gold. To provide maximum legibility, the dial is protected by a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The stainless steel version of the watch reveals a black or bronze dial, while the red gold one reveals a black or silver dial. The dial is completed with polished applied baton indexes.

The Breitling Navitimer watch accommodates the Breitling 26 Caliber, a self-winding mechanical movement. The remarkable precision of the movement is guaranteed by COSC certification given after subjecting the watch to 15 days of precision tests. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The chronograph function allows to record independent time intervals to within 1/8 second. The small date window is found at 6 o’clock. The date is adjusted with help of the crown. The movement gives an advantage of a 42-hour power-reserve.

Breitling Limited Edition Superocean Héritage Chronographe ...

The watches share elements of the original Superocean watches (first launched in 1957) including the Breitling signature with stylized “B” in 18-carat gold, and the luminescent triangular hour hand.  They are paired with either Breitling’s Ocean Classic woven steel bracelet (as with the original Superocean’s) or Breitling’s new Ocean Racer rubber strap.   The Superocean Héritage Chronographe’s 46mm steel case houses a Breitling Caliber 23 chronometer with a water-resistantance rating of 200 meters (660 feet).
