World of Breitling: Breitling Marks its 125th Anniversary with New ...
by replicawatches
To celebrate its 125th anniversary, Breitling has created a limited edition model of its legendary Navitimer Chronograph. The timepiece has inherited the slide rule bezel to be used for performing a wide range of calculations. The new Navitimer is to be unveiled at Baselworld 2009. The Breitling Navitimer 125th Anniversary watch features the distinctive elements of the classic pilot's models of the brand, including a two-counter chronograph and a highly masculine "Air Racer" bracelet. The case of the new Breitling watch is crafted from stainless steel or 18K red gold. To provide maximum legibility, the dial is protected by a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The stainless steel version of the watch reveals a black or bronze dial, while the red gold one reveals a black or silver dial. The dial is completed with polished applied baton indexes. The Breitling Navitimer watch accommodates the Breitling 26 Caliber, a self-winding mechanical movement. The remarkable precision of the movement is guaranteed by COSC certification given after subjecting the watch to 15 days of precision tests. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The chronograph function allows to record independent time intervals to within 1/8 second. The small date window is found at 6 o’clock. The date is adjusted with help of the crown. The movement gives an advantage of a 42-hour power-reserve. ...

Louis Breitling founded his watch company in 1884 in St Imier, Switzerland with the specific purpose to develop chronographs and counters for scientific and industrial applications. In the early 19th century, Breitling expanded into creating high-quality timing instruments for automobiles and airplanes, beginning a long history of creating timing instruments for the aviation industry. In 1952, the Navitimer was launched, a wrist watch equipped with a so called "navigation computer" that allowed pilots to calculate flight plans. In 1962, the 24-hour Cosmonaute chronograph was released, and this watch was worn by Scott Carpenter when he flew America's second ever manned orbital flight in the Aurora 7. Continuing to innovate for professional flyers, in the mid-1990s Breitling introduced the Emergency, which features a built-in micro-transmitter that broadcasts on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency. This is used as a backup to airborne beacons, and its signal can be picked up within a range of up to 90 nautical miles. The Emergency has been put to the test on several occasions, most famously in rescuing two British pilots who crashed their helicopter in Antarctica. Breitling has also been at the forefront in advancing the mechanics of the chronograph timepiece. In 1923, it was the first watch manufacturer to introduce an independent push piece for the chronograph, enabling the start and return-to-zero function (previously performed by the winding-crown). Then in 1934, Breitling added a second push piece to the chronograph enabling either cumulative or incremental time recording. Stainless Steel Case & Bracelet, Bi-directional Rotating Bezel, Blue Dial, Luminous Hands & Sticks Hour Markers, Date Window at the 3 o'clock, Chronograph Feature, 2nd Time Zone Feature, Fitted with the "Slide Rule" aka "Navigation Computer" Which Allows to Compute Different Airborne Calculations Such as Fuel Consumption, Climbing Times & Converting Miles Into Nautical Miles or Kilometers, Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal, Automatic Chronograph Chronometer Movement, Water Resistant 30 meters / 100FT
Breitling: An Historical Timeline
by Cynthia Whittel
Dealing in Breitling watch sales daily, I receive questions from customers who are very interested in Breitling’s history. Here is an outline of the history of the Breitling watch company. The year 1884: In St-Imier, the Jura mountain range of Switzerland, Leon Breitling opens a workshop specializing in the making chronograph pocket watches and precision counters for scientific and industrial purposes. 1892 The young captain of industry created the watch factory G LEON BREITLING SA, MONTBRILLIANT WATCH FACTORY at LA CHAUX DE FONDS Leon Breitling relocates in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the center of Swiss watchmaking of the day. Later in 1914: Leon Breitling dies. His son Gaston Breitling takes over the company. Gaston Breitling joined the family firm. Death of his father LEON. 1923: Breitling develops the first independent chronograph push piece. Start and return to zero functions had previously been controlled using the winding-crown. Then in 1923: Breitling develops the first independent chronograph push piece. Start and return to zero functions had previously been controlled using the winding-crown. Gaston Breitling inherited a passion for chronographs and systematically works to make the family firm a success story. A special edition, patented with the name VITESSE, was a huge success with the police: it enabled them to time drivers breaking the speed limit. Moving with the times and fashion, BREITLING accelerated the development and production of wristwatches with chronograph functions. The Year 1932 Willy Breitling, son of Gaston Breitling, becomes head of the Breitling business. Willy takes over for his father as the head of the company. 1934: Breitling develops a watch with a second return to zero push piece. This invention, made it possible to measure several successive short times with an added function using the first push piece, and gives the wrist chronograph its definitive form. ...
