This year, the Chopard Mille Miglia watch collection, paying tribute to the legendary race running from Brescia to Rome and back, welcomes a newcomer - the Mille Miglia Chrono Limited Edition 2009.

The new timepiece has been inspired by the Mille Miglia model that was introduced in the 1990s and enjoyed tremendous success. It was destined to become the first ever timepiece in the collection to be presented on the one-of-the-kind natural rubber strap the design of which was suggested by the 1960s Dunlop Racing tire.

The Chopard Mille Miglia Chrono Limited Edition 2009 watch demonstrates classic shapes, supreme readability and understated elegance.

The stainless steel case of the bold watch measures 42 mm in diameter and is coupled with the natural rubber Dunlop Racing strap. The ruthenium dial demonstrates the distinctive red-and-white race logo. The precision timekeeping is guaranteed by a mechanical self-winding chronograph COSC-chronometer-certified movement.

Besides hours, minutes and small seconds, the dial of the new Chopard Mille Miglia watch features the date function via a window positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, as well as the 12-hour and 30-minute chronograph counters found at 9 and 6 o’clock respectively.

Chopard To Provide Special Watches For Libyan Leader Gaddafi's ...

Swiss Chopard luxury watch and jewelry maker has just taken a substantial order from highly controversial Libyan 'supreme leader' Muammar Gaddafi. The move was politically interesting, because Gaddafi was very ticked at the Swiss because his son Hannibal Gaddafi was arrested in Geneva for something like crimes against humanity, or having the name "Hannibal." Gaddafi actually ordered a complete import embargo on all Swiss goods due to the arrest. Interestingly enough he made an exception for the large order from Chopard. So what did he get? The order was for 250 limited edition watches valued at around 8 million Swiss Francs. They should each have the likeness of Mr. Gaddafi on them in some form and were ordered to celebrate his 40th anniversary of being in office there. Gaddafi, if evidenced by his love of "intense" sunglasses, will likely enjoy the blingy reminders of his "victories" over the competition for that long. It is a tricky move for Chopard to accept an order from someone with such a spotty record on human rights and so forth. The company is known to be majorly hurting due to the weak economy, especially as it is pointed to the luxury industry. The move was likely due to the large amount of the order. You know what they say, desperate times call for despot orders.

Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed Black Watch

With the newest 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed Black watch, Chopard again makes a compelling case that sporty design and elegant sophistication are not mutually exclusive.  This striking Chopard watch presents famous Mille Miglia collection signatures, such as the tire tread-rubber strap and calibrated tachymeter bezel in combination with a sophisticated 44mm case that joins together stealthy DLC-treated stainless steel and brilliantly polished 18-karat rose gold.

An abbreviation for “Diamond-Like Carbon”, the DLC treatment featured on the case lends the Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono an extremely distinctive appearance, but it also provides a considerable degree of protection for the underlying stainless steel.  Nestled against this satiny black material are the sleek chronograph pushers, the screw-down winding crown, and the aforementioned tachymeter bezel that is indispensable for the calculation of average speeds.

The Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed Black timepiece also makes a superb impression with its intricate and harmoniously arranged jet black dial bearing the Chopard signature and the famous Mille Miglia logo.  Luminous indications at the hours and minute track ensure superb legibility, while the countersunk chronograph subdials create a three-dimensional aspect that keeps visual interest high.  This visual fascination is also enhanced by the gently curved sapphire crystal which features large transferred Arabic numerals to mark the hours of 12 and 6 o’clock.  As with the hour markers, the polished gold-plated hands display an ample amount of Superluminova material for effortless reading in dim or nonexistent lighting.  A circular magnifier is applied to the underside of the crystal; this discreet element provides a subtle aid to reading the date in its dial aperture at the 3 o’clock position.
