Jaeger-LeCoultre Quartet Master Control 1833 Collection
by cesar
(2008)Anniversary. They are four limited edition pieces that show off Jaeger-LeCoultre expertise in the field of watchmaking. The four models are: Master Minute Repeater, Mater Eight Days Perpetual SQ, Master Grand Tourbillon and Master Ultra Thin. They all come in pink gold case and chocolate brown leather bands, each of these timepieces passed a rigorous test of 1000 hours as all master control editions. Master Minute Repeater : This watch not only shows beautiful design and complication but also its features are breathtaking. The 18k Rose Gold skeleton 44 mm design looks outstanding, but what really sets it apart is the 15-day (360 hours) power reserve and its extremely high volume chime. The model will come in limited 175 pieces. Master Ultra Thin: The watch has a case of 38 mm of diameter in rose gold and chocolate face. It is not a mere coincidence that it is named ultra thin since this fine timepiece showcases an ultra thin design of 1.85 mm in height yet not compromising its movement. This is what really make it a complex craftmanship since it is not easy to fit the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 849 of 123 pieces in such a small space. This timepiece will be limited to 575 pieces .
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grand Tourbillon Continents watch ...
by cedric
Historical evidence of the first appearance of enamelling in its present form points to the late 15th century, and this delicate art enjoyed its heyday in a period when European civilisation was heading towards the most sweeping upheaval in its history. This was the era when the lengthy sea voyages and explorations undertaken by Spanish and Portuguese navigators revealed the existence of hitherto unknown territories. Over 500 years after this radical change in our vision of the universe, the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre wished to celebrate the timeless refinement of enamelling and the recognition that the earth is indeed round by presenting three exclusive Master Grand Tourbillon models presenting the face of our planet through a splendid enamelling achievement within a series named Continents. By dint of meticulous workmanship using the champlevé technique (literally ‘raised field’), the area to be decorated is hollowed out with a burin while leaving aside the partitions marking off the individual ‘honeycomb cells’, representing the motifs to be reproduced on the gold dial plate. The surface of each continent has been meticulously engraved and guilloché-worked in the direction of the four points of the compass, echoed on the bezel, while the oceans are distinguished by wavelike decorative effects. The layers of translucent enamel reveal the engraved motifs and confer extraordinary depth and incredibly intense colours on this horological planisphere. The bezel is engraved with the geographical coordinates of the central point of the motif, where the hands are fixed. Through the magic of this patient labour of love followed by numerous firing operations, the borders of the various countries and the outlines of the continents gradually take shape on the dial. Each Master Grand Tourbillon presents one of the three large continental ensembles: Asia and Australia – the Americas – and the entity composed of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. By its very nature, this meticulously accurate craftsmanship clearly precludes any large-series production, which means the Master Grand Tourbillon will always remain an absolutely exclusive edition. Each of the three versions will be issued in strictly limited series of 20 in platinum, 20 in pink gold and 20 in yellow gold, all fitted with a sapphire crystal case-back to reveal another prodigious accomplishment: Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 978 with its legendary precision. The tourbillon regulator appears in all its splendour at 6 o’clock, at the heart of land or sea depending on the mod ...
Jaeger-LeCoultre Sets Up Dedicated Site For Hybris Mechanica ...
by admin
First of all, I am a big fan of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie watch and the accompanying set. I discussed it at length here when going over the announcement of the Hybris Mechanica . Once again, it is the current most complex watch in the world, comes in a limited edition of just 30 sets, and will cost over $2.5 million. Recently Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled the watch itself and the uber display box (the safe), they have also opened a dedicated website to showcase just what the Hybris Mechanica set is all about, focusing of course on the Grande Sonnerie. You can check out the site here . The site is very nice looking and gives you lots of nice little details about the watch that you'd otherwise miss by just looking at it. However, the site is not easy to navigate - another victim of form over function. Just look out for the easy to miss "X" button on the upper right hand corner when you want to go back to the previous page (welcome to a Flash-based nightmare). I am of the firm belief that watch companies will NEVER learn to make websites that they intend anyone to actually enjoyably use. And as I say this, I am speaking also directly to you people at Richemont Group (owner of Jaeger-LeCoultre)! I highly recommend going to the site and poking around there. You'll find details on all the sonnerie functions and chimes - as well as a bit more about not only how it works, but how to operate the functions as well. This is almost unprecedented as watch companies are notorious for giving you the goods visually without explaining anything. Their excuse? That the sales person will explain all that is necessary to the customer at the time of purchase. Does that really make sense these days? Especially when people are using the Internet more and more to research prospective purchases, not to mention make prospective purchases (also that many watch sales people are...ineffective). So it looks like Jaeger-LeCoultre has started to figure out how to do things - slowly, hopefully surely. ...
