Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Triptyque
by Deidre Woollard
This is one of the most admirable examples of haut-de-gamme Swiss watchmaking. 18 complications, classic JLC reverso style... The price is very reasonable considering 18 complications (Vacheron Constantin's 16-complication Tour de l’Île is priced around 1.45mil?) and I'm sure there will be 75 very satisfied customers of the Triptyque. Well done
Review: 2009 Spyker C8 | The Truth About Cars
by Jack Baruth
On various vague enterprises. Such was the case a few years ago when I found myself with the urge and the ability (temporary, alas) to add something truly outrageous to my personal Island of Misfit Cars. A racing buddy of mine mentioned to me that Spyker was bringing their “demo car” through Detroit. There might be a deal or two to be had. And that’s how I found myself opposite-locking a $296k car across two lanes of Troy, Michigan’s “Big Beaver Road” at the top of second gear, idly contemplating my personal liability in any potential collision while my corporate babysitter clawed feebly at his door like a kitten kneading its mother’s stomach. A Spyker is like a really expensive, considerably faster Porsche Boxster. But that’s like Car and Driver’s characterization of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spur as “a really bad version of an Eighties Town Car.” The comparison fails to consider the fundamental reason people buy cars in this price range: boredom. A Spyker customer might be weighing the C8’s pros and cons against a motor yacht, a light aircraft, or a high-end tourbillon watch. The C8 is an entertaining automobile, from its outrageously sexy polished-aluminum exterior detailing to the quilted-leather interior. The customization possibilities humble those of Porsche and Ferrari, exceeding the bourgeois predictability of color-matched seatbelts with such delicacies as “customer-spec widebodies,” riveted fenders, an “aerotail” meant to evoke the Le Mans prototypes of the Seventies, and a $36,500 Chronoswiss regulator watch engraved with the owner’s name and the C8’s serial number. During a session with my Spyker representative, I settled on a “Double 12 Coupe” with a full glass roof, top-mounted air intake, riveted fenders, long tail, matching LV luggage and a stainless-steel Chronoswiss variant for a neat $377k. Sales tax up front would be $28k, with resulting sixty-month payments of $7,548.77. Yes, there are people who will sixty-month finance your Spyker, but make no mistake: most purchases are cash. ...
Truthdig - Ear to the Ground - Cindy McCain's 'Let Them Eat Cake ...
by editor@truthdig.com
If he is so far out of touch with the common man that he believes that a “middle class” salary caps out at $5M/year… what does that say about his outlook on the world?? this kind of thing reminds me of the episode of South Park where all the wealthy people start moving into town… some of the new rich children are portrayed as being unable to rationalize the plight, or even the existence, of people without 7 digit salaries… i think when really rich right wing religious conservatives like mccain and his ilk use the term “elitist” they really mean “intelligent!” it can’t have anything to do with dollars as lil’ john (who, by the way crashed 5—count ‘em—5 navy planes) and drug addled cindi have about 10,000 times more money than the obamas. and when rich people “give” to charity it doesn’t mean as much as a little old lady who gives 5 bucks, the rich get it ALL back in tax write offs created expecially for them by THEIR government. “of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich.” nes pas? OBAMA IN 08 Good Grief!.... If you had the kind of money that Laura and Cindy have then you would spend some too at a large function that the globe would be watching you on tv. Remember Cindy was the only child to her parents wealth. If you’ve got it and want to spend it, do it. I’m sure she has plenty to save too. Don’t you go and spend more than you’d like for a wedding or etc.? Look at Hillary….I’ve never seen her in the same outfit twice and there is no telling what she pays for her outfits. They probably make enough interest on their money invested to wear an outfit + like that a day. Leave all the ladies alone, and let them dress nicely. Who wants a slob for a first lady or President? If they are spending your tax dollars it would be a different story, but they are not. I think alot of people could find better things to put their minds to use than bashing ladies on their attire. It isn’t like they are showing skin, and being tacky. Live your life and let others live theirs. Maybe Oscar and etc. let them have great deals, or freebies. You wouldn’t want anyone bashing you on your clothing. And for Heaven’s sake….don’t accuse them of stealing the money. You’ll have to answer to that one day, maybe not on earth but in Heaven. And that is where it really counts. And for all of you that accuse Cindy of looking like she is on drugs….repent….that is a terrible thing to accuse someone of and not have proof. Would you want someone to say that about you? It is easy for someone to take pain pills for pain when they are hurting, hurting and hurting. I’m not sure of her medical condition. If she is taking pain medicine, she probably needs it. We can’t judge how someone feels because we like or dislike that person. I imagine what you saw IF ANYTHING was exhaustion from campaigning. I just don’t understand why someone wants to belittle the opposite they are voting, and I am speaking to all Americans, republicans and democrats. Let’s all live our own lives, and stop being so insecure that we bash our opponents and their families. Let’s all try to live in HARMONY! ...
