Symbolizing the epitome of accomplishment and perfection, the Greek letter, Omega has also came to represent the craftsmanship of the Swiss watch-making brand, which adopted its name, and, through a history of over 150 years, the qualities it stands for, have managed to became, the synonym of this brand.
Founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, in 1848, the Swiss watch-making company Omega always provides high-quality luxurious and elegant timepieces to its clients worldwide and Constellation Double Eagle Chrono is not an exception. The brand’s collections have always combined innovative features of design, the well known Swiss high performance technology and a refinement which aim to please customers.
Omega Constellation Double Eagle Chrono in Red Gold is an automatic timepiece which remains faithful to the sporty heritage of the Double Eagle. Its appearance, both contemporary and robust features a stylish 18 karat red gold case, red detailed black dial, a black rubber strap, and it measures 41 cm, custom crafted to fit the wrist of a gentleman. Furthermore the sapphire crystals case is scratch-resistant and, inside the case and dial it has received anti-reflective treatment for a perfectly clear time reading.
Omega designers merge the classy elegance of the red gold case with the black rubber strap adding thus versatility to this timepiece, and making it a very fashionable accessory which can be worn both on the Golf course and to an official business meting.
As for the movement, the chronograph is a self-winding Omega 3313 Caliber , which merges Co-Axial Escapement, and a column-wheel mechanism which generates impressive precision, stability and resistance of the movement. The timepiece also features the free sprung balance, with hour, minute, date and continuous little second hands, an implemented feature that requires to the manufacturer a great deal of technical expertise and a considerable depth of knowledge of the delicate art of watch making.
Sitting in a relatively conservative case body, the DE draws its exceptional overall effect from the colour palet, dial furniture and other stylistic elements that are used to accessorise the case: Solid 18k red gold chunky markers are applied on a checkerboard dial (in one version) with a stark white chapter ring; Stubbed dauphine hands, merging sub-dials contrasting with a minimalist sub-dial at nine o'clock come together to create a striking visage. The broad bezel in black with contrasting roman numerals establishes a fine balance with the thick, sculptured claws. The pushers, a modern rendition of chronograph pushers from the 1950s, create a pleasing addition to the profile of the watch. The rubber strap reinforces the contrasts in the case and frames the case perfectly. The model featured in this review is powered by the Omega calibre 3313. While there has been a low incidence of public reports about the reliability of the calibre 3313 Double Eagle model, it pays to know that in its earlier incarnation there were quite a few concerns expressed by collectors about the movement. Nevertheless, the feedback on these movements has been decidedly mixed and often quite emotional. Calibre 3313 is a self-winding chronograph movement with column wheel mechanism and Co-Axial Escapement for greater precision stability and durability of the movement. It features a free sprung balance and a 52 hour power reserve. Water resistance is guaranteed to 100 metres. The 41mm case is fitted with a domed anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
