Maxi Marine Diver - Monaco YS

Ulysse Nardin pays homage to the Principality of Monaco – the city on the Rock facing the Mediterranean Sea by creating the Monaco YS , an addition to the Marine Diver Collection . Ulysse Nardin pays tribute to its company history related to the vast open seas since 1846 and is participating for the first time at the most prestigious Monaco Yacht Show in 2009. 

The squeletted hour and minute hands are equipped with dark grey luminous material which glows in the dark. The distinctive black wave-patterned bezel with its 18 ct rose gold inlay featuring the diving scale adds to the overall design aesthetic. An exclusive black ceramic folding clasp and ceramic elements on the rubber band complement the timepiece. 

An exhibition case-back reveals an excellent view of the black winding rotor and the mechanical movement. The self-winding movement features a power reserve indicator and an oversized small seconds register.  The 42.7 mm case is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a diving scale. The model is water-resistant to 200 meters.

Ulysse Nardin rend hommage à l’histoire de sa manufacture et à sa vocation maritime depuis 1846 et participe pour la première fois cette année au très prestigieux Monaco Yacht Show.  Disponible exclusivement dans un boîtier noir traîté en DLC (diamond-like-carbon) et durci en acier inoxydable, cette technologie ingénieuse donne à la boîte une surface anti-rayure. Le cadran noir exclusif avec ses motifs de vague supporte des index lumineux en applique qui révèlent une lumière noire lorsque vus dans la nuit.

Les aiguilles squelettes représentant les heures et les minutes sont équipées d’un matériel gris lumineux qui brille dans le noir. La lunette dotée de motifs avec des vagues noires et les décors en or rose 18 k s’ajoutent à l'ensemble de la conception esthétique. Une boucle déployante et ses éléments  exclusifs en céramique noire sur le bracelet en caoutchouc donne de l’allure au garde-temps.

Ulysse Nardin Black Ocean Watch: Super-Stealthy Maxi Marine Diver ...

When a timepiece gets an exciting (and slightly ominous) name like “Black Ocean” , how can you not be at least a little curious?  I’m referring to one of  the hottest new limited edition variations of the Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver.  UN’s 200-meter rated dive watch with crown guards, a massive screw-down winding crown, and a beautiful wave dial that borrows charm from the 1846 Chronometer has worked its charms on many a lover of luxury watches, and the addition of a number of colorful variants has only added fuel to the fire.  With stealthy all-black sports watches being incredibly hot right now (witness the number of custom PVD-coated Rolex models that have surfaced) it was only a matter of time before Ulysse Nardin entered the fray.

The Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Black Ocean watch is supremely stealthy.  There’s virtually no reflectivity at all, and you can attribute that to the DLC coating (”diamond-like carbon”) that is evenly and seamlessly applied to the 42.7mm stainless steel case.  The excellent UN rubber strap features the characteristic jointed elements bearing the brand name and “Limited Edition” seen in many other Marine Diver watches; in this model they’re manufactured from extremely scratch-resistant black ceramic , rather than brushed stainless steel, or 18-karat gold.   Ceramic  is also used for the Black Ocean’s dual-button deployant clasp.   

The excellent self-winding movement offers no surprises.  It is the reliable  UN-26 –an ETA 2892-based motor which Ulysse Nardin has significantly upgraded through in-house modification.   This caliber earns a chronometer certificate from C.O.S.C. and offers a power reserve indicator, in addition to a date display and a small seconds function.
